Efficient Materials Management and Cost Control

How do you even start when you are going to do a truss quote.

Blueprint Reading Essentials for Floor Quotes

You should start with the Truss Request Form that are questions that can asked to the guest: Review the options selected. Check for any notes or differences from the plan and confirm which details are correct.

Identify the Foundation Plan:

This shows all bearing wall locations, which are key for floor support.

Count the Floors: Use cross-sections and floor plans to see how many floors are in the building. For instance, a cross-section may show a floor system dividing the basement from the main floor.

Work from the Ground Up: For multiple floors, locate all bearing walls and find the longest clear span. Use color codes as follows:

 Check Truss Specifications:

Confirm that the specified floor system works for the house. For example, if 18” deep floor trusses are needed at 19.2” spacing, refer to the floor truss span chart to verify. Follow the deflection guidelines on the plan and avoid using maximum L/360 trusses.

Calculate Floor Square Footage:

With the floor system confirmed, calculate the square footage using the dimensions on the plan to square each section out and find the square footage/total area of the floor system.

Use colors and box out each area to add up.

This process ensures each floor quote is precise and aligned with the building’s specific needs.
